Suggestion...
I was thinking, there has been a lot of recent banter about Oblivion, and I'm imagining that this will continue for quite a while as we (those of us who get it) get into the game and work our way through it.
This will probably be the case with other games, like the not-too-distant Spore, and no doubt others too. Psychonauts would be another example, although it hasn't been quite as talked about as the others.
However, none of these fit into any of the catergories as currently defined on the forum, since Oblivion is neither online (as in MMONG) nor a FPS; and Spore isn't going to be a MMONG or a real-time strategy game.
As you will have guessed by now, my suggestion it that maybe we should have a general "Others" or "Offline Games" forum which would cover these games and allow the threads to be kept in some kind of related category, like the recently-deceased "Consoles" forum.
I know that Oblivion, as with Morrowind, will spawn a vast array of dedicated forums, especially once some serious mods start getting made for it; however, I still think that some kind of forum dedicated to other uncategorised games could be of value to the site.

Yeah, that was my thinking. The general forum tends to be used for anything non-gaming related, and other games just fall in there cos they have nowhere else to go.
The discussion board is used for things of mildly less importance, links to videos of German kids screaming, and more transitional stuff.
An Other Games forum would make the distinction between Other Games and just general crap.

Oblivion has smatterings of FPS, so shove that there. (Other FPS)
And spore contains large amounts of beardy type strategy, so shove that in the bearded strategy zone.
We were trying to steer away from clutter, right?
Compromise! I'm sure just 'cause it's not multiplayer doesnt mean it has to be pulled in to one corner and be told it can't play with the 'other' games

It might be confusing to put it in FPS, but you're right about not separating it because it's not MP, it's an irrelavant distinction.Grimmie wrote:Oblivion has smatterings of FPS, so shove that there. (Other FPS)

Maybe if 'Other MMO's' was 'Other MMO/RPGs' ?
Aye - this be a good idea.FatherJack wrote:It might be confusing to put it in FPS, but you're right about not separating it because it's not MP, it's an irrelavant distinction.Grimmie wrote:Oblivion has smatterings of FPS, so shove that there. (Other FPS)

*strokes beard*
I have recently tried (and failed) to install a simplistic subforum hack, which would keep everything tidy but allow for more forums to be used.
I think it would help clear all of this up (by the way thanks for the suggestion Lateralus) but I cannot get it to work because it only gives me instructions for the subsilver template files, and we use a 5punkified SmoothBlue template.
Because of this I'm not clever enough to work it out, but it would result in Basically something like this as an example :
5PUNK
5punk
News/Info
Introduce Yourself
Suggestions
LAN Party
Other
Other Games
PC Hardware /Software
Game Reviews
The hack makes it easy to see from the index page if something has been posted in a forum lower down, and provides a direct link to the forum, and vice versa.
Do you think this is a good way to go?

Too late!
Woah, I'm like, totally spontaneous dude
*hovers over delete board button*
"Oooh it's big red and shiney"
On a slightly less jibberish and more serious note though, anything and everything related to a game that doesn't have it's own forum can be plonked in the Other Games forum.
You may or may not have noticed that the other "Other ****" forums have all been deleted as well, and chucked in here.
Hopefully this is the last major reorg' we need to do, as things have been a bit all over the place recently, and this should offer some stability and make things a lot simpler.
I wanted to reduce the amount of forums on the front page, and this helped me do it, so that's part of the reason it was done.
Thanks goes out to Joose & Grimmie for moderating the Strategy forum over the last 6 months
