maybe http://www.phpbbhacks.com/download/1405 or suchlike would be handy.

edit: i dunno how difficult it'd be, (i expect very) but i bet changing phpbb to something else (like badger) would cut the spammers pretty fast.

I second this motion. Although I do enjoy the 5punky comedy backlash against spammers, it can only get worse, and will get less funny each time.
