Building a Town

Post by Killavodka »

Pete and I have been looking into making a town. Unsurprisingly it takes quite a bit of effort but is not beyond even the crap organisation skills of even 5punkers.

That little stone in the middle is where the keep will be. This is the first building that you can put down and it requires money, time and resources...

<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/10878900@N04/2537971462/" title="The Keep by killavodka, on Flickr"><img src="http://farm3.static.flickr.com/2273/253 ... 54d4_b.jpg" width="1024" height="623" alt="The Keep"></a>

Also to compliment our keep in 5punky fashion we appear to have a very handsome pair of balls!

The line of stones here is where the inner wall will be and will look awesome if we can build it. There are lots of other stuff we can build once the keep is built such as trade posts, weapons smiths and maybe even a building we could call the pub 8)

Further to what KV said - To see our progress head to a city guide, each village/town has them, and ask to travel to our guild city.

We're in instance 5 of purple lotus swamp, we're sharing it with another guild but their plot of land is shit compared to ours. :)

I appear to be our architect and to build the keep then the rest of the town I need the following -

Plans - I bought my ink for plans at the price of 75 silver, I now need another 150 silver for the parchment to write it on. I pretty much bankrupted myself in the process of buying the ink, and each separate building plan needs the same amount of money spent to create it. This is the stumbling block, if we have the money we will have the keep and town.

Resources - when you reach lvl 20 you can gather resources, but only when you ask a trainer how. There are trainers in poitain, purple lotus swamp and lacheish plains, best bet is the swamp because it's quiet and I've walked most of it. If you go there and view the ruins, don't click on any altars or statues that have interact cogs on mouse-over, they summon hard bastards who chop you up.

As a miner you get the skills to gather copper.
As a prospector you get the skills to gather silver.
As a skinner you start with rough leather.
As a stonecutter it's sandstone.
As a weaver it's cotton.
As a woodcutter it's ash.

Until you complete these basic ones you cannot gather the better stuff like iron/gold/oak etc.

But instead of handing the stuff you've collected in, give it to me because I need it for building stuff. Me and KV wandered round in the swamp and found a shitload of permanent resource points. In fact the map sometimes shows them, dunno how so I took a picture so we can all see if it's meant to or a bug.

***Word of warning, when gathering there is a chance you will be attacked by creatures such as savages, manifestations of mother earth, jealous prospectors or animals, they are level specific and generally drop good stuff, but sometimes it'll be a mini boss and they'll hurt a lot**

To build the keep we need 150 pieces of ash, 200 pieces of sandstone, 50 pieces of silver and 100 pieces of copper. In one night me and KV gathered over half what we need for the keep. Dump anything you collect in the guild bank, any money you can spare toward me paying for materials for plans would be welcome, it wont take us long to get the materials for the entire town by the looks of it, but paying for the plans is the speedbumps in our way.

On the map gold blobs are precious metals, grey blobs are rock, brown blobs are non-precious metals. the brown log things are the trees, the white mushroom cloud things are cotton shrubs and the round grey dots are my additional resource markers.

Good stuff, that's exactly what I wanted to see. From what I've found everyone can have all the resource gathering skills, but I don't know how it applies to the advanced skills like Architecture and Mapmaking. I'm presuming you're limited in those.

I'll be spamming the resources whenever I have time this weekend, and hopefully we can get the keep up in short time.

Also, I was first to see the patch, so I claimed it by vomiting on the gatehouse. It's mine now.

You are limited to two professions which at this time CAN NOT be changed so be careful, don't do a Pete and go "ooooh quest icon, oh fuck I didn't want to be an alchemist!"

Also the way you level resource collecting is once you have picked all the resource quests from the guys in Lacheish, Poitain or Purple Lotus you get tasked with gathering 20 of each resource and when you hand that in (You have to give those 20 resources to the bloke) they will give you some training plus another quest to gather whatever you have just trained in.

Crafting also seems to work in a similar way, you have a basic level of stuff and once you have done a quest to make pretty much everything you will unlock the next level. Its a bit mind boggling at first but it works well and it sounds like the devs have put thought into making their crafting system a bit different from the norm.

PS. I'm Weaponsmith/Armour Smith which I will be putting my resources into once the 5punk town starts taking shape

Excellent work chaps, thanks. I shall do my best to get to 20 this weekend and get gathering. Let us know if there are particular skills which we don't currently have and would be useful for building a metropolis.

How about a Town Planner?

Blatantly lifted from the OcUK guild (who are on Dagon btw). Is this what you mean? It seems you can stick an xml file that shows points on your map and there share it with your guildies, which would be nice.
- If you intend on farming, try to do it from 19:30 onwards (in game time) as the resources reset to about 60%, also if you leave the vicinity of the node you are mining, it regens a lot quicker than it would in daytime.

Make a backup of the original and copy the file to the following location (you may have to create the Waypoints folder);

Windows XP
C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator or Username\Local Settings\Appdata\Funcom\Prefs\Ingameusername\Waypo ints

Windows Fista

I has no cloo what that is because my attempt at entering the anti bot code on rapidshare was fail. There appears to be a way in game of getting those markers on your map because I never did anything in particular to get them.

The farming in our instance is any time. The resources are so abundant and un-camped that I've got roughly 65-70% of the stuff needed from one night.

KV went armour smith and weapon smith, we'll need a gem cutter because you start to collect loads of mobs and I've got a resource page full, I can't remember the others. If you choose the wrong one, delete as many quets as you can because they count toward the quest limit, which is shit.

I'll attempt to find places and positions of guys who take you to the guild city.

Finding Resources

Firstly you need to get the "Starting Quests" for each one. These are available from 3 places and can be taken from lvl20:

Cimmeria Head east down Conall's Valley and follow the path all the way across to the other side. Enter the Fields of the dead and turn immediately right to find the entrance to the Lacheish Plains. From here you can either enter the guild site (which will transfer you across to Purple Lotus Swamp and to our guild instance) or just enter the area if you don't fancy leaving Cimmeria. Follow the path to the small town and look around for the quests.

Aquilonia Head directly north from Tesso and follow the path up, turning left over a bridge to the Outcast Village. Just north east of there is the wagoneer who can either transport you to Poitain which is similar to Lachiesh Plains or to our Guild site.

Stygia Go to the Kopesh Province and go pretty much directly South to the road to Purple Lotus Swamp. Here will be the Wagoneer who can either take you to our instance or a random instance. Probably best to go straight to our instance as it is less populated.

To actually find the resource you have to search, there is no radar like in World of Warcraft but each spawn is permanent so if you right click on the mini-map or the main map you can create a waypoint which you can go to in the future. Silver, Copper and Sandstone look like various shades of poop and can be generally found on the mountain sides. Cotton is a bit more difficult as it camouflages well with the grass. Trees that can be chopped up for wood have a leafy animation that allows you to tell the difference between them and normal trees.

At the moment we need Sandstone, Copper, Silver and Ash which can be found in Kopesh Province, Wild Lands of Zelata, Conall's Valley, Lacheish Plains, Purple Lotus Swamp, and Poitain.

Using Resources

When you click on the resource it will come up with a health bar. Each use of the resource causes it to loose 10% of its HP, until it gets too low and will stop yielding resource. Everytime you use a resource location there is a chance that a mob will spawn. These are pretty hard and can hurt a lot, but they die quite quickly and give pretty good XP and loot.

Can we post who's doing what so we don't get too much crossover? I hated choosing a profession in Warcraft only to find someone else could do it better than me and everything I made was useless.

Only two of us have professions at the moment I think.

KV on Kallah has Armoursmith and Weaponsmith

I on Khuulgor has Architect and Alchemist

Ty is going to get Gemcutter and a.n other when he hits 40, we've been collecting a lot of rough jems, seems the drop rate is high, so when ty converts them into fancy jewels we should make plenty dinero.

For the generic trade-skill stuff you start to collect at 20+ just dump it in the guild bank as and when, selling it in raw form generates very little profit at the moment, working with it to make items seems far better at this time.

That's all bases covered isn't it? I was planning on going armourer and gemcutting so I can create enchanted armour. I'm 14 levels off yet though.
