Nice visuals, but felt totally cheated walking out of the cinema. The usual "not like the book" etc etc, i mean the acting was good, the accents a bit off, but something felt like it was missing, like there should have been another hour of it or so... As per usual, it was left on a cliff hanger so to push the next film in line onto you.
An okay film, but not really worth another watch, at the cinema or renting.
Yeah, I enjoyed it and I didn't think it was a waste of money, but it did seem Golden Compass "lite" and since I've done this the other way around though, watched the film and now I'm reading the book. Hehe, Page 60 and I'm barely 10 minutes into the film you can see that they've had to cut the interesting bits out of the book and turn it into the typical Hollywood CGI-fest.
I probably wouldn't be interested in this if not for the books (which were great) but am interested in seeing how they show the world(s) onscreen, rather than how faithfully they follow the plot. I saw some pre-postprocessing bits of it before they put the daemons and special effects in, and they were a bit meh, but the airship concept art looked rather good.
Perhaps, like Lord of the Rings, I'll be amazed throughout at the way they bring some scenes to life with more detail than I had imagined, or maybe it will be like Harry Potter, where by the third or so movie I mostly noticed that Emma Watson had a nice bottom.
It's not wrong, it's getting famous future victims encounters squared away in your head, then if you do happen to bump into them and drug then rape get on really well with them, you'll be less likely to leave incriminating evidence shocked.
