Zomg, all that speculation about caek, and they missed the rather obvious. Train an animal to do something by rewarding it, it's pavlov's theory applied by a crazy emergent AI to humans/androids.
Also, If the AI contains 'modules' of differing function, then that would indicate a fractured conciousness, as can be evidenced by the way GLaDOS talks in the final battle. That would then allow for the AI to have self-installed the module that stops the neurotoxin.

I've played it through three times now, second time with the commentary, and a third time to get the cameras.Grimmie wrote:about 4 hours first time, and 1:30 the second time round.
Once you know the maps, it's quite easy :p
Achievements don't count in commentary mode, and you have to get all the cameras, including (I think) 3 from the advanced levels in a single game - you can reload a saved game, though.
I can do most of it straight away now, with only the very large room with the turrets on L19 needing a couple of goes. Checked out a couple of videos on gamevideos, and quite a few of them do things differently to how I did, perhaps we should have a tactics-comparing thread sometime.
Still can't get my head around getting gold on the challenge levels with portals, the steps ones are a bit contrived - being more frustrating than fun - as are the timed ones, both relying more on you hitting your marks perfectly and getting a bit of luck.
Only other thing I had trouble with was finding one of the commentary nodes on the WCC level and remembering the gun could shoot through grating.
Still, hopefully there's a lot more to come if the first commentary node is to be believed - stating that this is only the start.
More maps would be great, but something I thought about as I woke up this morning, was how about multiplayer? I don't know if it would be workable, but here are a few game mode ideas I had:
Rat-race mode:
Two players compete against each other to escape first in identical, glass-separated rooms.
Spy-vs-Spy mode:
Two players inhabit the same space, but cannot directly interact with each other (or one would just portal the other somewhere nasty) but they can set various traps for the other one. Perhaps they start at opposite ends and have to reach the other's start point, or there could be mulitple paths through interconnected rooms, providing more opportunities for ambush.
Co-op mode:
Two players with a portal gun each, but who need to work together to escape. Either rooms could be designed so one player has to stand on switches to let the other progress, or the portal guns could work in tandem so that a portal can only exist between the different player's entrance/exits. Perhaps mix it up so that the guns are like in the early stages that only have one fire mode, or only have a single gun and make it droppable.
Lemmings mode:
One player with a portal gun has to escort a team of players to the exit. Could be combined with rat-race mode.
Overlord mode:
One player is in the observation rooms and has various control of platforms, lifts and turrets to stop another player or players escaping.
I had some other ideas about the players being turrets or cubes in a some sort of team deathmatch, but couldn't think of anything that would work.

I'm having difficulty getting golds too - some of the target times etc just seem obscenely difficult to achieve. Whilst the least portals one is good (because you have to think things through), least steps and fastest time just seem clumsy.
Actually, having done the bonus maps I was finding it a bit difficult to play through the game again as I kept "conserving" my portals.

I played through the test parts of the normal game again just to get some of the achievements - the camera one (still ended up 3 cameras short somehow) and the friendly fire one, and I found myself playing very differently than I did the first time. I was doing things in ways I'd never of imagined before playing the advanced maps.

How many cameras is it that need to be taken out? Also, I've left my chell falling through a recursive loop for a good long time, didnt get the freefall thing, it was a few minutes on l18, with that really long drop to build speed for the platform slinging/climbing thing you do.
hmm, maybe I did that in commentary mode, shit.
