Small barge: I can't even recall it's name right now, but the time to train from this to Retriever is minimal, skip ahead rather than stopping here and spending your isk!

Retriever: This is really the first mining barge, able to fit two Strip Miners with ore-specific crystals. This barge is quite good enough to mine in empire while you finish up your skills for a Covetor. In high security sectors, it's able to tank the damage the NPC's do, and even dispatch them with the use of drones.

Covetor: The larges T1 mining barge. It allows the use of 3 mining lasers, (Strip Miner II's being the best), and T1 or T2 mining crystals. It (I believe) has bonuses to mining amount, and with skills and mining laser upgrades, cannot be out-mined easily. 5punkorp has raped entire belts of their ore using a fleet of these in very short time.

Skiff: The skiff is the first level of Exhumer that you can fly once you've mastered Mining Barge V. It has more shield tanking ability than it's T1 small barge counterpart, yet can only fit a single mining laser. It has a bonus to mining a particular ore type that cannot be found in Empire space. Strongly suggested that you train for a Mackinaw and use it's bonuses for ice, or train for the Hulk and high shield skills to mine in 0.0, as the NPC's out there will kill you if you mine alone!

Mackinaw: The Mackinaw is the second ship in the Exhumers line, and has highly specialized systems for mining ice. While it does cycle slightly longer while mining ice, it mines double the amount, outmining a Hulk when mining ice. It can handle two mining lasers, but stick to mining ice with it, as it lacks enough mid slots for an easy 0.0 tank.

Hulk: The Hulk is the best solo-mining ship in the game in terms of tankability and survivability. Able to field a decent shield tank w/ skills and some high-end shield bits, the Hulk also has extensive bonuses to mining amount, and can fit 3 mining lasers. It also has a nice sized cargo bay for holding all that ore, but you'll still have to jet-can if you want to mine for two complete cycles or more.

Rorqual: The first ORE capital in game. It's designed to support mining by providing bonuses, support, and also by reducing hauler needs by compressing minerals and ice by use of it's onboard processing plant and blueprints to produce compressed versions of the same. It can fit capital sized tractor beams to pull ore cans to it from 200km, enabling it to cover ships spread across entire asteroid belts. The onboard clone vat allows pilots to clone jump directly to the ship, and it's hangar array can hold several Hulks. Information about it's drone bay, hangar array capacity, and cargo hold are available in game.

[[Image:eveonline.jpg|frame|Eve Online is an MMO rich in history.]]

==The Basics==
Eve-Online is a Massively Multiplayer Online Role-playing Game set in the future. In this possible future, mankind and its greed have colonized the known universe, fueled by the ambitions of Mega-corps that war with each other over profits and resources. It looked like a dark time for mankind, with civilization pushed to the far reaches of known space, when a natural wormhole was found to another Galaxy. Brave explorers ventured forth, and began colonizing the new worlds, when suddenly the wormhole closed. Nobody could find a way back, and millions died without a link to the other galaxy. Over time, some did regain the capability to fly in space, and 4 main races arose. The Gallente, Caldari, Minmitar, and Amarr each have different social/economic/military views, and have skirmishes, despite the Concorde governing presence that maintains order within the 'Empire' systems with police patrols. Outside of the Empire, lawlessness presumes, as it is outside the reach of Concorde's forces.

Players earn ISK (Inter-Stellar-Kredits) for a myriad of things. Mining, going on Missions for agents of a faction, building and selling items from minerals mined from asteroids (most of the items in the game are built by it's players), buying things at one station at a low price, and hauling them to a station with a better price for sale, shooting NPC's that have bounties placed on them, freezing player ships in space and demanding a ransom or threaten to blow them up (also called piracy, which can only be done away from the watchful eyes of Concorde), or just for making instas, something that costs a player nothing, but can vastly speed up a player's movements through Eve.

==The Juicy Bits==

Players play in a world that they can affect. Players can build space stations at moons to harvest minerals off the moons, they can form a ship-building alliance, or they can band together to destroy the work of others.

The Economy is market driven. If you want something bad enough, a large amount of isk can get it for you. If you undercut your competition, you may establish a new standard price for something within a region.

Your character's actions determine what he/she can do, and where they can go. If you upset the police too much, they'll shoot you on sight. If you upset players too much, they'll place bounties on your head and everyone will try to get you. If you work hard and don't shoot indiscriminately at others, you'll develop a positive security status, and others will trust you.

We have a useful links page on the EVE sub-forum that includes all sorts of juicy info and we've started a [[Ship fitting Frontpage]] which all are invited to add to and embelish

==The Crusty Bits==
There is an hour of DownTime each day while they update the cluster of servers. Eve is one virtual world in our Real World, and is played on by Hundreds of Thousands of players.

It costs a monthly subscription to play, although they have a 14-day trial available, and annual or bi-annual payments are discounted. There aer also timecards available that some trade for in-game currency. The *free* 14 day trial is well worth a go, just put a post on the [http://www.5punk.co.uk/phpbb/viewforum.php?f=15 EVE-5punk forum] and someone will hook you up with an invite!

It takes time to learn the skills to do larger things within the game. But it wouldn't be much fun if everyone could fly Titans on their first day!

==Conclusion==
Jump in a Velator, run through the tutorial, and look up 5punkcorp! ASK QUESTIONS, as other players experience is invaluable in the rich world of Eve.
