This is a list of mods and addons from the Armed Assault communit which I think are worth having. I'll hilight the ones which are included in missions or on the server and therefore need downloading [...is there a way to make a link to automagically collate a list of these somewhere? - Friz]. Client side only mods are optional downloads, usually stuff that improved sounds or graphics.

The best resource for ArmA mods and info is the news site [http://www.armedassault.info/index.php?option=com_frontpage&Itemid=1| Armed Assault Info]
== The Must Haves ==

[ftp://www.armedassault.info/armad/patches/Arma_Euro104Update105.zip Patch 1.05] Euro Release is ver 1.04. This is the update (226 Mb)

[ftp://www.armedassault.info/armad/addons/FDFsoundpack10_install.exe Sound Pack] Client side sound upate pack. Doesn't replace any of the original files. *Untested*

== Fun Stuff ==

=== Weapons ===

[ftp://www.armedassault.info/armad/addons/HK_G11_v1.0.zip HK G11] Y'know, the caseless ammo one. I love this gun.

=== Personel ===

I only go in for the really good ones rather than the basic model retextures. Nothing leaps out and strikes me as really good yet.

=== Wheeled Vehicles ===

None yet

=== Floaty Stuff ===

Someone's working on an entire fleet: carriers, destroyers, cruisers and landing craft. Should make litoral operations a real possibility.

=== Mods and Missions ===

Multiplayer missions automagically download on connecting to the server so no need to put them here. I'll link funky SP and any mission specific addons here.

== Useful Tools ==

[ftp://www.armedassault.info/armad/tools/objectbrowser.zip Vehicle & Weapons Browser] A very funky all-the-toys in game browser

[ftp://www.armedassault.info/armad/addons/ArmAstart_v05_Setup.rar ArmA Start] Useful little launcher tool. Checks the server is running and shows what missions and addons are needed. Future version will also check the client addons for compatability.

[[Image:littlebird.jpg|thumb|right|200px|Er, think we supposed to be inside the chopper?]]

==The Basics==
Armed Assault is very like it's older sybling Op Flashpoint and so for 5punky purposes we've lumped them together. It's played only occasionally on 5punk, but there is sometimes a resurgance of interest. A modern era FPS, ArmA focuses on low level tactical combat at section, platoon and company level. With a strong emphasis on combined arms cooperation, the player can get in and use any vehicle, weapon or gun emplacement on the battlefield. Missions are hugely varied and a powerful yet easy to use mission design tool allow simple missions to be created very quickly.

==The Juicy Bits==
All the missions take place on one large island so there is no 'tunnelling' down a path chosen by the mission designer. There a numerous ways to complete an objective and the open ended format makes replaying the single player game very rewarding. The active community continues to churn out addons, graphical and sound updates that breathe new life into the game. Coop mode is excellent fun and takes a certain amount of skill, thought and planning to achieve mission success. Or we just race tractors round running everyone over.

==The Crusty Bits==
The new server browser, whilst improved from the original Gamespy driven one in OFP, still leaves a lot to be desired. By far the most significant change though is the ability to join a game in progress, which will revolutionise coop play. There is also an as yet little understood Persistent=1 Modifier in the server ini file, which indicates that there may be potential for running persistent battlefield servers in the future. Although fairly pretty, the graphics and animations are a little dodgy and the physics are not what we have come to expect with more recent games. It would have been nice to see a destructable environment too - no craters here and buildings collapse rather unconvincingly. Voice acting is utterly terrible.

==Conclusion==
If you want a slightly slower paced FPS with lots and lots of toys where you have time to really think and work as a team, rather than suffering from the "run, run, run, death, rinse and repeat", then ArmA is worth a go.
==Friz Tips==

Startup parameters:

Syntax: x:\ArmA\arma.exe -param1 -param2 - param3

-nosplash : faster startup

-mod=@modfolder

@modfolder is a folder in ArmA root with all the 3rd party addons you download. Keeps them nice and separate from the original addons folders. You can have any number of addon folders if you want to keep them all apart. Just use -mod=@modfolder1; @modfolder2; etc.

Tips for improving performance. I reckon these settings are the best for performance vs quality.

Quality: Very High
Vis: 4000m
Res: Max (dropping it increased framerate ofc, but I'm a sucker for high res)

Terrain High
Objects High
Texture Normal
Shading Normal
Postpro Low
Anisotrop Low
Shadow Low
AA Low
Blood High

AA and Anistropic set too high makes it go all gooey and looks a bit shit. I sometimes have to drop the terrain detail down a bit if I've got a lot of objects on screen in a heavily wooded area (tree detail is amazing but eats framerate).

[http://www.5punk.co.uk/wiki/index.php?title=ArmaMods| 5punk Arma Mods List]

==The Basics==

==The Juicy Bits==

==The Crusty Bits==

==Conclusion==
If you want a slightly slower paced FPS with lots and lots of toys where you have time to really think and work as a team, rather than suffering from the "run, run, run, death, rinse and repeat", then ArmA is worth a go.
Covops cloak, recon launcher, nanos in the lows and whatever you can fit in the mids (ship scanner, cargo scanner, roid scanner are all ideas)

====Manticore====

Stealth bombers are the submarines of Eve. Creeping around cloaked and popping up unexpectedly to launch cruise missile death on unsuspecting foes. Like subs tho, they tend to crumple as soon as someone looks at them.

H: Improved Cloaking Device T2, 3 Cruise Launcher T2 M: 2 Sensor Booster T2, 2 Remote Sensor Damp T2 L: Nanos
Awaiting Ship Setup Data
====Caracal====

Everyone's favourite budget PvP ship. Easy to fit, very versatile and cheap as chips. You can experiment with Assaults, Hvy Assault or Heavies in the highs, tank, tackle or EW in the mids and still leave room in the lows for whatever you want.

Caracal Anti Frig: Std Asslt Launchers, Med Nos, 10MN Ab, web, scram, cap recharger/second web, BCU, 800mm plate

==Recon Ships==

====Falcon====

A glorified covops frig with plenty of room for toys but does no damage. None at all. Primary weapon is the ECM and stealth. Use best name ECM rather than T2

H: Covops Cloak T2, Probe Launcher, 2 HAM T2 or Cyno Gen M: 4 Racial and 1 Multi ECM, Sensor Booster T2, Gravimetric ECCM T2 L: Co-Proc, Sig Distortion Amp T2, Nano

====Rook====

Can you say Primary? Since the ECM nerf in Revelations, this combat recon has come into its own as the strongest EW ship. At the price you're better off using a Blackbird or Scorpion for fleetwork but it's still good for small gangs. Some people like to stick a cloak on but since it can't do covops I don't see the point.

H: 5 Heavy or Hvy Asslt Missile T2, 1 Nos if you can fit it M: 4 Racial and 1 Multi ECM, Sensor Booster T2, Gravimetric ECCM T2 L: 2 BCU T2
Basic Kessy: 4 Std Msl, shield booster, EW/Tgt Painter/Webbers, 2 nanos
Kessy Inty Pwner: 4 Rkts, 2 web, 1 scram, 1 MAPC, 1 400mm plate
====Buzzard====

Covops cloak, recon launcher, nanos in the lows and whatever you can fit in the mids (ship scanner, cargo scanner, roid scanner are all ideas)

====Manticore====

====Caracal====

==Recon Ships==

====Falcon====

====Rook====
