this has been bugging me for a while now. is that meant to be there or am i just special?

Second most recent are orange.
Third most recent is yellow.

it nearly always seems to say new post when there dont seem to be any

That's because it's based on your Last Visit time, which won't get updated until you come back later with a new session. There's a solution a-coming at some point.

I don't see it as a big problem to just have a quick look to see if you've seen the newest post before. Unless you've got the memory of a goldfish (or a Friznit), in which case it's probably all new and interesting anyway.
