AoC gameplay

My question is how does the team system work? Is XP shared? Does it nerf the XP of higher level characters in a group? What's the deal with people having problems with different instances of the same place?
I'm hoping we can address most problems we'll encounter on friday in advance so we don't spend all night trying to get together, because things like that only serve to put people off the game.
In order to give the thread a bit more depth though, and pre-empt a later 'How to play AIDS of Colon' thread, we can ask questions about gameplay here (as opposed to discussing the merits of the game in the Age of Conan thread).

you might want to move my post about 5punkytown here then.
Team system - Xp isn't shared as in there's a set amount and you get shit all for killing a mob with a group. If I solo'd a mob at my level I'd get around 600 per kill. If I did it with a couple others we'd each get around 300.
Vastly different levels means the xp for the lower players drops a bit, and the higher players (if overkilling/boosting) get 1xp for the kill.
Instances are easier to fix now, unless the area is broke (avoid the pyramid in stygia, it's a right mess in there) We can see where the group leader is and we can pull others to the same instance if we're the leader, it sometimes works, sometimes doesn't, it's generally easiest to stay near a spawn point because when grouped it has a tendency to re-spawn you in a different and correct instance.
Like doggers said, any questions you can think of, even if they sound bloody stupid, ask and if I can answer I will.
I want 5punk to like this game I think it's win, and I want a big fucking town that I architected and we all built. So smooth gameplay/lols is more likely if as many of us as possible have a painless experience.

Sounds okay, teaming up makes life easier but you get less XP. Evens out really. Did you say there was a sidekick system too? That makes the game eminently more playable for the likes of us, as those who don't play so often can jump in with the higher level guys for a team. Worked well in CoX.
I'm not convinced we can generate enough interest in 5punk to create an entire town, and I believe that in order to hold your town you need to be very PvP orientated. I'd like to see a Waugh Arms in someone else's town though.

The lot I play eve with have a clan on Crom and we'll be building a keep/town/city when/if we can. I'm sure you bummers would be welcome to open a Waugh Arms there (dif server tho)

That's an interesting possiblity. I reckon we'd have to look outside of 5punk if we wanted to do anything serious in the game. Question is whether we actually want to do anything serious.

I've just been wandering the wilderness of a resource area and there's already some towns being created. There's huge foundation stones that track for hundreds of metres. Some of them even have the basic wall and keep already built. We'll never get enough 5punkers to create a town

That's okay, we'd have to put too much effort into maintaining a town anyway. If we can open a Waugh Arms somewhere public and spread some 5punky love then that's good enough for me.
Don't suppose you can build stuff with werewolf fur can you? I picked up a metric shitload of it last night.

If it's a generic tradeskill item then t can probably be turned into armour or the like. If it's in your normal inventory then I'd just flog it.

How can I answer your questions when you haven't asked them yet! I've been playing this game for a week (not including beta) so I'm not exactly n authority, just that I've run into the same questions as everyone else and had to figure them out.
I'll start my crafting in earnest soon then I'll let you all know what I've learned.
Continue to ask questions and I'll try my best to supply answers.

Well you appear to be able to pick up all the trade skills by going to the village in Purple Swamp (may not be called this) and talking to various people. You get a quest, then presumably the skill. I can recommend the precious metals trainer - she's topless.

You can get trade skills from poitain, purple lotus swamp and lacheish plains, you also get slightly more of the resource points in those places too.
There's a lot of people farming stuff atm so try different instances if you're not picking much stuff up. Also, when you drain a resource completely you tend to get attacked by something. I got a jealous prospector and a spirit of nature bear attacking me for digging sandstone/cutting down a tree respectively, didn't expect that.

Well, I progressed out of tortoise and I am now well and truly fucking lost, this game seems to have no real "go this way, it's kinda your level" progression, I found myself wandering aimlessly from one playing field to another and really not having a sodding clue what to do, so, if anyone would mind posting a few tips on life after tortoise I would be grateful. Sadly these problems with the game flow (WoW, GW, CoX all were better at telling you where you should be going etc...) are putting me off at the moment, which is a shame as there are aspects of the later game I really want to get into but when I play I just get listless.

Look at the world map. It has each area and what level you should roughly be to attempt questing there. Dependent on race you go to conarch village (cimmerian), old tarantia (aquilonian) or khemi (stygian).
All the home hubs have quests in them before you even move away from them, khemi less so but it still has a few, such as the 'run all over the place talking to people so you get to know the layout' quest.
All the areas have loads of quest icons in when you first land, if there isn't any you've either picked them all up already, you're not meant to be there or the map is broken. If only the third option wasn't an option it would be easier.

once you've done all the quests where you land, you'll want to go to:
Connall's Valley (from conarch)
Khopshef province (from khemi)
Wild Lands of Zelata (from old tarantia)
They'll all have a heap of quests for you to do, and are completely interchangeable if you get bored, or run out of quests in one area.
Personally I like Khopshef best, as it's not too big and very flat.
