Am I missing the point here?

95% of the time I play the multiplayer, I am treated to a constant barrage of air strikes and helicopter deaths. I can't even walk more than 50 feet without dying by these epic rewards at the hand of a single person, or just constant grenade spam. Should I actually get away, I am treated to bunny hopping people who apparently are able to get a head shot from downtown without aiming whatsoever. I understand damage is locational, but why does it only take 1 shot to kill me most times, and I can't even get a guy into the red after hitting him a half a dozen? How in the hell is this game supposed to be fun? What the hell am I doing wrong?

Are you playing on a cracked server? Sounds like hacksaws to me. I find I do a lot better against randoms with their bunny hopping and monging and constantly complaining over chat than I do against 5punkers.

Sounds like you just need some practice in an environment that isn't full of tards. Or, if you can't find one of those, play with us tomorrow :)

Protip: Play on servers with fewer players. I used to play on 50 player servers before I realised that it's a lot more fun with slower and more tense 8v8 battles.

Also with less players, there's fewer chokepoints, reduced nadespam and fewer airstrikes and choppas, too.

Also also, get used to people jumping or diving around. They do that. I do that. You can easily defeat someone who is in mid air by, y'know, actually aiming at them and shooting them - which seems to be something people often overlook.

Well, that's given. But I mean to play the game when there isn't an organized thing going on.

How do I tell the difference between a cracked server and a non-cracked? It is just how things happen on the server itself? I'm just pulling them up out of the list.

Unfortunately, Tuesdays don't really work all the well for me to play, so I think I'll be missing the majority of the good times. :(

Cracked servers don't show up on the list, so you're definitely playing non-cracked ones then :P

That really, and bunny hopping only works for RPG'ing (CURSE YOU SHADA!), shotties and possibly smgs.

I tend to look for clan servers as well, more chance of people playing that little bit fairer.

Well you can check out when other 5punkers are playing in XFire and join in - I've only ever really played with them, so don't have much advice to avoid annoying play.

Obviously with less players, there will be less air strikes and helicopters - I'm not a massive fan of them either, partly because I never get them.

I wasn't really sold until I started unlocking guns and perks - at first I found myself only able to get kills with the grenade launcher, but later the silencer on the AK and the P90 became favourites.

Depending how you play, and whether servers are in hardcore mode or not makes a big difference to the usefulness of perks:
I have a problem with using iron sights as it annoys me that too much of the gun is in the way distracting me, so the steady aim to increase hip-shooting accuracy was a great add-on. Much trickier in hardcore though - with no crosshair.
In non-hardcore, players see the map all the time so a silenced gun with a UAV cloak is a good combo to sneak behind the enemy. In a face-to-face encounter I often come off second best - with the death cam frequently showing that I didn't even get a shot off, possibly due to lag or me taking too long to aim for the head. From behind though, you can take the time to pick your shot.

Even if you're not doing so well you still get quite a few points each round and you'll be unlocking new toys to try out more and more.

Bunny-hopping's been around since ever and isn't likely to go away - I was quite surprised the other night to find it was actually a recommended tactic in the UT2004 tutorial - personally I find crouch-potato players more annoying, on one level because I'm more likely to miss them than a bunny whose head I'm aiming for, but more because games tend to reward their tactic with increased accuracy and to me that smells like a min/max munchkin-ing style of play where winning is more important than having fun. I'd rather say I had a laugh with some mates than boast about my score any day.

Played this for the first time online on my mates PS3 the other day, and fuck me it was good. Just like a hybrid of COD:UO & COD2.

Can you buy this over Steam, it's easier for me to hide the purchase from the missus that way

I've found the easiest way round this to be sticking to a few good servers which you know, playing with the same people. A lot of the time i go on Hardcore servers aswell, you find that the players genuinly want to have a good game of COD and tend not to play like 6 year old window lickers, rarely will you find a GL or RPG but as for Nades etc, you just gotta live with them i suppose!

Im gonna have to jump into a %punk game over the week, dont think ive seen any of you on it yet, i play as Mr.B on this though and not my forum username.

thanks

1) Of course it's recommended in UT2k4, I mean the game doesn't have double jump and quad jump mutator for fucking nothing :)

2) The guy who is crouching is standing still, he's most likely dead if he doesn't hit at first. I usually bunnyhop with noobtubes, it works quite well.

Note: continually jumping around using the grenade launcher does not make multiplayer a fun experience.
