I just came accross the handiest tool ever: Game Jackal. It creates profiles that let you play any game without the disc without having to look for dodgy no disc patches. Its on special offer at the moment, only £8, its well worth it if youre too lazy to switch discs.

How does it work compared to a CD-image-mount-as-a-drive tool?

A lot better, since it seems to work with any game you throw at it and you dont need to find/create a mini-image yourself, it does it all for you.
