I still suck at flying and I'm putting it down to not having a joystick, whether that be true or not. So does anyone use a joystick for flying, if so which one?

i found joysticks to be far too sensitive in battlefield.

mostly i use WASD and the mouse (default settings) it's pretty difficult to get the hang of, but once you've got it, you've got it.

i tend to find that using mouse tends to make me over correct, when flying gunships, and just right when flying the transports.

i normally use wads for collective and rudder, and cursors for cyclic control.

oh yeah, and the ground/trees/water to stop wherever i need :unimpressed:

cheers, I'll stick with the keyboard and mouse then, I'll have to tweak my config and practice on an empty server

and find out what cyclic control is ... :?

collective is how much power is going into the rotors (go up/go down)

cyclic is which way the chopper turns/pitches (goes left/right/forward/backward)
/boring ex-sierra driver

I tried my Dad's joystick in BF2142 (thought someone might as well play my copy) and it was really good for flying the hover-chopper thing.

It's an MS one that has a throttle handle in the base that works great for the "rotor" speed, and you can twist the stick to control the "rudder" (ie: turn without flipping upside down).

By pushing forwards a bit and keeping a hand on the throttle I was able to fly all around the map while still looking at the ground and shooting - something I could never do normally, I always used to do divebombs to shoot then have to pull up to regain height like in a plane.

In Battlefield 2 you can always beat a mouse-pilot by turning in tight circles, they either run out of mouse mat, get arm ache, or knock a drink all over themselves. I also find the gun is deadly with a joystick, you can take helicopters and boats out from miles away. I can barely hit a chopper with a mouse using the guns.

I find flying in future beef to be far easier than in beef, the attack chopper is very manouverable, upside down under bridges and nudging walkers over etc, in beef I mainly crash.

Yes, I use a Logitech Wingman.

Throttle on it, and twist for yaw left and right.

Also lots of buttons.

I never got the hang of using keyb and mouse because I always had a joystick on hand at home.

i use a joystick too, and although flying choppers is pretty hard, planes are easer to handle with a joystick.

in BF2, I use a joystick to fly the jets, on the rare occasion I do. I don't even bother in Future Beef because I generally don't bother flying in it, but it's also rather easy to fly the gunship with a mouse anyways.
