How often do you actually play all the old stuff though? You run through all the quakes, dooms and ut's again?

I buy old stuff because of having a nice electronic copy, but I don't actually play them. Like Vice city, I bought that and go on for about half an hour a year to spawn some guns and do drive-bys on a motorbike to phil collins whislt flaunting a hideous hawaiian shirt.

Fix'd.

But yeah, I do that with DVDs.

Thankfully I manage to prevent myself doing that and only have 5 games on steam (3 of which were ninja'd during ProfLAN). Admittedly I've used D2D once or twice instead - in many ways I prefer that because you get an Unsteamified™ copy which is less likely to whine when you fettle it with mods and you're not forced to have the lolinterface running, although it doesn't autopatch for you. I also like the IGN reviews.

I haven't had any problems with installing mods on my Steam versions. True, I don't use that many to start with, but it has not been a problem yet.

I had steam once when Half-Life first came out? But, I've pretty much only play MMO's and :sweep: everything else.

Also, not been winning at the job game for a few years now so no funds to buy every game like I used too. So, prolly best I don't have Steam anyways heh

I've also added our first mod, a shiny F16 which you'll also need in your addons folder to play this particular map (can be changed back to a no addon version easily though).

Download the F16 here. There's full instructions on how and where to install it on that site. I'd really recommend using a separate addon folder for 3rd party stuff. I'm assuming everyone knows how to set command line params in Steam but if not poke me or Berk.
too, as friz sucks :P

Borderlands got a 'yeah, it's pretty good' in PCG this month. Nice guns but only as interesting as a MMONG otherwise was the impression I got. Not negative, just slightly more lacklustre praise than the omgwtfbbqrulez I was hoping for. On the other hand, Dragon Age: Origins got a staggeringly good review. I got the impression from that of all the best bits from Oblivion and Mass Effect rolled into one.

I'll probably get both.

RPS's verdict on Borderlands has piqued my interest, but I'm still not sure. Should I be worried, bearing in mind how much I disliked Fallout 3?

Eurogamer review appears favourable (I only looked at the score).

This has crossed my mind. Not that I disliked Fallout 3, just that it left me a bit cold in the end like Oblivion did. The gun-peen waving and multiplayerness makes it worth a shot though.

If the part you didn't like was the "post apocalyptic" setting...yes.

Borderlands seems to be more a Shooter with some RPG added to it whereas, Fallout3 was an RPG with some shooter stuff.

This Preview gives you a good idea what it is.

/edit Plus, as DP said, the multiplayer coop could make it 5pecial.

I loved FO3's style and setting, I just found it clunky and nasty to play. I'm not at home with RPGs at all but was lured in by the FPS viewpoint. This sounds like it could be more my thing. Perhaps it'll even ignite a love for FO3, who knows.
I'll give it a shot.

It can be pre-loaded on steam now.
