Euro 2016

Yeah, 90% of you have less than no interest in football, but I thought I'd open a discussion for those who do.

I'm in a syndicate at work which goes off prediction accuracy. So I created a huge bingatron to work out the most likely outcome of each game based on qualifying (or friendlies in France's case). I'm curious to see how accurate it is, but since I spent a long time looking up scores and poring over the stats I'm also a little emotionally invested. So I've been looking forward to the event, more so as a whole than for England's contribution.

Therein lies a bit of a peculiarity. On the one hand I hate watching England play. They're fucking boring and too stressful to watch because they're too defensive and despite all my endeavours I still get hopeful that we might do well. On the other hand my mathematical model puts them as winning the tournament. So it's going to be interesting.

First up though, I have a 1-1 draw in the first game. Which doesn't look such a bad prediction right now since I reckon Romania have been the slightly better team, although 0-0 is looking more likely right now since there's barely been a shot on goal. Still, I get points for correct outcome but wrong score.

Ah bums. I was right until the 88th minute.

I'm suprised it lasted out to 88 mins. I would though France would have smashed it 2-0 or 3-0 as it's the opening game.

Well the first 3 games have been quite enjoyable, lets see if England can carry that on (highly unlikely).

I've got them down for a 3-1 win. I admit that sounds unlikely. More so after today where my bingatron was proven inaccurate twice more, although I did successfully predict a draw in the Albania Switzerland game (albeit 0-0).

You do know Switzerland won don't you?

Sorry, it was Wales I predicted 0-0. Switzerland I predicted 3-0. My bingatron's quite ambitious.

Has the Bingatron got any right yet Doggers?

Nope :(

In fact I suck so hard as to be about 37th out of 40 in the league. I blame Gibraltar.

Try feeding the results of the actual tournament in with increased weighting to represent current form. I had a bingotron that did fantasy football - it was always shit for the first half of the season based on last year's data, but keeping it going with the current data made for pretty accurate results when I typically changed my entire team at Christmas. A couple of times enough to snatch the (work) trophy.

I was thinking of doing that. The first round's in, but I can use those results for the knockout phases. Most of the hard work's done so it shouldn't be too hard. I might even make mid-table.

Fucking hell England. I'm really glad I was listening in on a presentation about performance management rather than watching that game. However, I did correctly predict the score. I thought the guys sat next to me were taking the piss when they told me scored in extra time.

EDIT: Bollocks, turned out I predicted 3-0.

I watched it, tense game but it's a great feeling if you get a good result in the end. Whoop!

IN-GURRR-LAND.

Like autoerotic asphyxiation?

I enjoyed the Iceland game more. Those fans really showed up - apparently 10% of their population were there.

Exactly!

Yes that was a good game. I jumped for literal joy when they scored!
