5punk attempts to complete a 4X game

Post by Grimmie »

eXplore, eXpand, eXploit, and eXterminate

Following the success of Mondiablos, where Pnut, Bits, Joose and I got together once a week for a couple of hours to beat demons up, I figured we could probably replicate the success elsewhere. Does anybody fancy actually finishing a game of:

Civilisation V (£8.74 for complete edition, or £4.99 for base game*)
Endless Legend (£15.29 for the collection or £7.81 for base game*) or
Beyond Earth (£11.99*)?

Personally, I'd love a long game of Endless Legend with 5punkers. It's very good.
We just need a small group that can regularly commit** a couple hours a week to the game

*Prices shown are Steam Winter Sale prices
**A few weeks skipped here and there are okay, obviously

I'd love to try to do a Civ V game, but I doubt I'd get the time. I have a feeling I'd get rofflestomped by you or Joose at some point during proceedings anyway.

I've only ever really got the hang of three of those Xs, substituting the last for being eXterminated. I have both those Civ games which I enjoyed (apart from those fucking sandworms in BE) and Endless Space, which I found massively, impossibly, hard.

Endless Space got pretty easy once you got the hang of it. I seem to remember it all came down to terraforming to min-max your systems. I forget the details, I'd probably suck at it if I played it again.

Last night was good! I forget though, in the end did we decide to go for round two on this Thursday or next Thursday? Actually... was it Thursday?

It was late, I was sleepy.

This Thursday, aye.

I was going to do a diary entry for what happened in the game, but uh.. I didn't see anyone else other than Dogpants' dragon avatar, and one cell of Joose's border on an adjoining continent.

I also built a fancy library with a floaty gem above it, and everyone got scared when my techno-priests reached the second research age first.

Your dudes look like Space Marines, you have a big legendary library and you have advanced technology provided by techno-priests. Damn right we are scared.

Also my entire civilization is made of my peoples excrement, including the people themselves.

It also happens to be the games currency...

My dragon people are peaceful librarians and if anyone wants to fight them they're taking their huge sabretoothed ice-lizards and sulking.

I'll optimistically aim for 9:30, but it might be 10 or slightly after, depending on the RNG of children.

Any chance we could do this week's endless legs on Wednesday? I have the parentals arriving on Thursday and doubt I could get away with "Hi Mum! Hi Dad! Im now buggering off for the evening to play games with my mates!"

Should be okay for me. Better actually, it means I get Thursday night to recover before Frigaems and Saturgaems deprive me of sleep.
