Came across this on Make:Blog:

Obviously a thing now I think about it, but I think it's pretty cool that people are creating and sharing 3d print designs to help with tabletop gaming. Sure, might be a bit more expensive than papercraft, and probably takes a bit longer in some regards after figuring out printing and painting, but still rather awesome.

The thingieverse link in the comments is a potential goldmine.

That's pretty cool. I've read that there's a lot of variation in quality with 3D printers though. Almost certainly proportional to price. Still, I reckon it won't be too long before you can get decent, affordable ones (and then soon after they'll find a way to exploit it and make shitloads of cash out of people).

A little while back I found a thread about some pretty nice alternative* 3D printed Epic Space Marine models.

For example, Steampunk Rhino variants:

*I say alternative, you can't buy them or the game any more.
