i46 sporadic commentary

Post by Dog Pants »

The 5punky contingent is now established at i46 having first discovered the bar, then the camp site, then the event hall. Troubles started when, having pretty much put up our tents we were told by a fairly nice security guy that if we didn't move one (mine) the council inspector would come and make us move it, so I'm a bit of a pariah now. We do have a nice gazebo for beers and suchlike. Disaster number two - my camp bed wouldn't fit in the sleeping compartment of my tent, so the arse end is jutting out into the middle. Anery's mate, inhabiting the other half, didn't object but may change his mind when he comes out of his pod to be faced with my arse sticking out of my sleeping bag.

Now in the event hall people are ordering pizza over the LAN (Paypal unfortunately so I have to do it the old fashioned way) and eating pop rocks. More beer will soon follow. Oh, and amazingly everyone's computers still work, apart from a minor mishap involving me not being able to use my new graphics card because I didn't have enough power connectors. Damn modular power supplies.

We're currently trying to come up with items for a treasure hunt, sort of like a Where's Wally. So far we have to look for:

A CRT monitor
Ghetto case mod
A trackball
A Mac

I've played X-Com Enemy Unknown (first member of public in the UK apparently :)) and Borderlands 2. Enjoyed both, even though I had to play both with joypad controls (X-Com was set up as an arcade cabinet and the Borderlands 2 station I was on had a dodgy keyboard). I had a good chat with the 2K staff member about X-Com and she assured me the PC version would be entirely mouse driven and context sensitive, which was pretty much my only concern. Interesting to see that there was a queue for B2, while there was usually at least one (of four) X-Com cabinets empty. It must say a lot to the publishers about how popular a game will be.

I now have no idea where this thread is going :?

Are you looking for things from the list you posted, or looking to add things to the list you posted. And where did X-Com come into it?

Oh, I see. Ignore the bit about X-Com.

Borderlands was pretty cool but the stand was set up for console players, the mouse and keyboard were at about knee height which made me more than a tad uncomfortable. Game's good though.

Oh, and we got relatively nice t-shirts (baseball style with the borderlands logo on the front and "MINION 01" on the back. Also, when the 2K guy setting us up in the game told me I had to use the joypad I asked him if I could play in girlfriend mode then. He didn't look very impressed.

Woo! We found a CRT monitor in the Counter-Strike area. An added bonus which we should have put down as a hunt item was a beige case.
