How do we not have a recommended listening thread?
Anyhoo...

Doors purists look away now

Band are Israeli, mostly electronic but they do like to mix it up with guitars and drums - remind me a bit of Pendulum, if Pendulum smoked weed instead of crack.

I'm a big Doors fan, but I'm also a big electronica fan, so :likesitall:

Nice list!

I've added those to a Best of 2011 Spotify Playlist, minus Infected Mushroom and Lykke Li (listed as 2010), Gemma Hayes and Goyte (absent). If you think the older albums should be on there too, or if an album is available in your country, please do add it to the playlist.

I think the Lykke Li album might have come out in 2010 for you Euros, but Wikipedia is telling me February 25th this year. Gemma Hayes isn't that popular outside of Ireland apparently, so that's no surprise. The Gotye album being absent is disappointing, as it's pretty good:

A bit of a Phil Collins vibe on this one.

Whoops, I was spelling Gotye wrong. Too much Red Dwarf. The album you listed isn't on, but a previous one is (same with Gemma Hayes). I've added Lykke Li.

I like everything so far, which is unusual for me. I expect everyone's seen this, but just in case I'll plonk it down anyway:

That Gotye fella is really popular over here (because he's Belgian I guess), and that means your song gets played every five minutes on the radio. In our house the radio is on the entire day, so that means I literally can't hear that song anymore or I'll go crazy.

Sorry, that's one of the worst things I've heard in a long time.

Not compared to the UK charts it isn't.*

*Not that I'm insinuating you've heard the UK charts, but I couldn't think of a more eloquent way of putting it.

Well, they're probably pretty similar to the US charts. Not that anyone over ten pays them any attention, even the radio doesn't seem to play much stuff that's in the charts.

That said, this is probably my favourite thing I've heard this year:

It's a lot more mainstream than stuff I'd usually listen to, and it was Radio 1 where I heard it so it's hardly a secret find and will probably be entering the charts soon, but I think it's quite fun.

I'm disappointed deject, your ears must be fake or something!

Just found a couple of good songs from Vampire Masquerade: Bloodlines on Spotfire that are pretty good

A recomendation for your ears: Janelle Monae. Saw her on Glasto (on the telly, I wasnt actually there. Alas.) and I had bought her album before her set had finished. She has an amazing voice put to good music, and she seems slightly bonkers-in-a-good-way. Here is the highlight of her Glastonbury set (long, but worth watching it all):

And as a bonus, the official video for one of her other tracks, which has some of the best dancing I have ever seen. I swear some of these people have legs made of silly string:

I was. But I was in a bit of a state and couldn't tell you who I saw, other than there was a big metal fire breathing spider, bright lights, trains stuck in tenement buildings and some psy-trance involved.

This was the Guardian's choice of the year, and I have to admit I've found it quite catchy:
