SR: WAR!

Post by Joose »

The new SR sourcebook has been released as a pdf download. Its entertainingly titled "WAR!"

I imagine the general theme of the book needs no explanation.

Its largely fluff, with lots of interesting descriptive stuff of the politics of the moment, and the organisation and tactics of the various armed horses in the 6th world. Not a lot of that will be of much direct use to characters (except possibly for ex-military background types, like Frank), but its quite a good read none the less.

The last quarter-ish of the book is more crunchy, with rules for proper military spec stuff. This is some seriously hardcore shit, and is highly entertaining. Again, probably not much use to player characters, as its mostly going to be out of everyones reach, but it gives you some crazy goals to aim for. Im particularly tickled by the inclusion of the rules for buying yourself a Thor-strike level weapon. For those of you that dont know, a Thor is shadowruns premier WMD. Nukes, for complex reasons, dont work reliably any more, and are also banned by an international arms treaty, and the Thor is what they replaced it with. Its a giant orbital rail gun that drops big metal poles from orbit, causing an explosion like a whole bunch of nukes, but without the nasty fallout. The rules for it are mental: anything within 200 meters of its impact is destroyed, regardless of armour or health. Beyond that, you get 30P damage, reduced by 5 every 100 meters from the blast. In other words, unless you are a great dragon, you aint walking away.

Happily, they are not easy to get. They have a 3 figure availability and cost 1.2 billion nuyen. Its something to save up for though...

Vehicle combat rules would be interesting, air-to-air dogfights and tank battles.

Yep. Mil spec spells, adept powers, matrix hardware, cyberwear, armour, everything.

On closer inspection, its not all super-expensive incredi-weapons either. For example, there is a 30 nuyen can of foam stuff that can be used to make impromptu defensive positions. Concrete wall in a can, if you will.
