Nightfall have just opened their new official forum, frequented by the creators. A new site is apparently to follow shortly and they're touting it as the beginning of a raft of new activity. This being Nightfall I'd take it with a pinch of salt, but already there a few nice pictures and bits of fluff. The forums are a bit RP heavy for me, but we'll see what develops.

Interesting thing: Jared Earle (one of the original designers) confirmed on the forum that Stormers have gender (although sterile and apparently pretty difficult to tell apart).

Most impressive! I like the "best of" section in the gear list.

One thing on the character generator, I can't see it records Formulae anywhere. Not sure how essential it is for the vanilla game, but I know Pants' house rules restrict the number of ranks you can have in an Ebb skill against your total Formulae.

All it's normally used for is tracking how close you are to the White. However, since it's representative of how much you know about weird Ebb shit I figured it was a nice influence on your Ebb ability, and it provided a believable way of slowing EBWs down.

I only had a brief skim through, but there seemed to be a lot of people of the "I am a psycho gun bunny and SLA is all about GUNS!" variety.

I haven't had that impression. More "I'm a Role Player and SLA is all about me and my character, which is better than yours". Lots of wily waving and attention seeking. The Nightfall guys are great though, and there's some good pukka stuff on there. You'll be meeting some soon.

It was a very quick skim.

I try not to read those places just in case I stumble across some upcoming devilry that you're plotting.

Fair enough, that's always possible. I try to skim the good stuff and collate it into the Hardware Catalogue or house rules anyway. Don't feel you can't go there on my account though.

The other impression I get (which again could be completely wrong), is that a lot of other GMs seem to make it a "big screen" SLA scenario e.g. high profile escapades and encounters with big name baddies.

It could they're just recounting tales from high (low?) SCL campaigns, but I love the "bottom rung of the ladder" feel to SLA.

That's quite true. There's a lot of secrecy and intrigue in SLA, and most GMs can't resist letting the players in on it. I work on the assumption they already know half of it out of character, so never encountering it keeps the mystique. I also like the bottom rung thing, that you're struggling against obscurity. Gives it a feel of gritty desperation and futility that a dystopian society should have. It also means that if I do drop something important in it will have the desired impact. I think my way is better, and the approval from Nightfall when I posted the first BPN I ran for this campaign would suggest they agree.

I like reading your bpns far more than some of the game ending super high level crap that seems to get posted a lot.

There's nothing special about ultimate bad guy if you fight it every day. A good case in point would be when you dropped the threshers, it helps with the tiny cog in huge machine perspective, if the guys had tried to stop them they would have been jam.

They would indeed. I'm glad that point wasn't missed, because it could have put a bit of a crimp on the campaign.

It would have been an impressive death.

Quick, but impressive.
