Yay! Broke!

Post by Gunslinger42 »

I patched to 1.3 a couple of days ago and tried to load up teh beef yesterday for the first time in about a month, the little screen pops up in the middle with the big 2 and whatnot, then the screen goes black as if it's going to load, then it crashes to the desktop (and it also left nice little checkered patterns on the icons on the desktop). I assumed it was the patch being spacky and re-installed beef without any patches at all, same problem except without any checkeredness. Next I updated my drivers, same problem. Deject suggested it might be my graphics card, but other games seem to work fine, so I'm all out of ideas :(

This happened to me exactly as you described (sans chequeredness) after 2 hours of hair pulling I rolled my Nvidia drivers back to the bog standard 84.21 release and it worked

older drivers will generally work better than newer drivers.

also, if that's no good, try driver cleaner or such.

If all else fails then install the Nvidia driver that comes with Beef, you can install it from the CD auto-start menu

Unless you have an ATI card, then.. erm... hit it with a stick.

(Edit: Needless to say uninstall the old driver before doing the new one, or use that thing up there what berk said that I've never heard of)

Hmm, I'll try older drivers then.

Just tried using the drivers that came with beef and still no luck. I think I need some kind of more thorough re-installation of BF2, if that doesn't fix it something else must be wrong with the computer. Argh.

Before doing that, update to the latest DirectX in /downloads/drivers/

I doubt it will fix it, but it doesn't hurt to try.

Incremental??

Post by TheJockGit »

I have also heard that the Incremental Patch is bugged in that it doesn't contain all the fixes it should. The EA forums reccomend that you do a fresh Install of the Beefs and use the FULL patch (about 400MB).

Go Figure :P

Also if you bought any of the expansion or booster packs, you're an idiot. I mean um.. don't reinstall them straight away! They've caused quite a few of the crash-to-desktop problems.

If that doesn't solve it, try some of the stuff in this thread.
