If you touch your software enough does it become hardware?

3-pin fans are nice because you can monitor/control fan speeds from your BIOS. Get the biggest fan you can.

3 pin fans off the motherboard are a *VERY BAD IDEA* you can do a lot of damage to the mobo, especially with bigger fans.
get a 4 pin one with a connector to monitor the speed if you're that way inclined

I've never heard of such, but I guess it's theoretically possible.

really.
i'd not be too concerned unless they're *fuckoff* fans, but best practice is to use molexes

makes sense i suppose. the more ampage you try and pull through the motherboard the more chance of it melting it i guess

Well, that makes it even more worthwhile to invest in a fan controller box. I'd say if your fan works off the mobo, then you're safe.

Yeah that's what I did, I had 2 fans running off the motherboard but when I added an extra PCI card and hard drive I wanted another fan so got a fan controller unit and put all my fans on it, <a href="http://www.coolermaster-europe.com/index.php?LT=english&Language_s=2&url_place=product&p_serial=ALD-V02&other_title=+ALD-V02+Aerogate%20II" target="_blank">this one</a> in fact cos it matches <a href="http://www.coolermaster-europe.com/index.php?LT=english&Language_s=2&url_place=product_list&p_class=624
