Cobalt just isn't selling, it's too common! So the mining array isn't making us any money at our POS.

There lies the good news though, as it opens up other opportunities! The most interesting one before us is adding a mobile laboratory. If we offline the hangar array, the mining array, and the silo, we can fit a lab on our POS. None of the other assets disappear, they'd just be offline. This raises the concern of 'how do we fuel the POS out of the hangar if the hangar is offline'. In actuality, we can't. We would have to offline either the Maintenance array (where we park ships) or the lab to then online the hangar at least once a week to refuel the POS. That or store the fuel elsewhere and haul it in for fueling.

The cost effectiveness on the lab works out to the following, (roughly). The average price for research and copy slots in the region including Khank is 1400 isk per hour, not including the 'install cost'. Looking at baseline fuel costs for the pos, having a lab online costs 1.1 million isk less than running the mining array and silo. With 3 Mineral Efficiency, 1 copy, and 3 Production Efficiency slots on a mobile lab, the cost averages out to 700 isk per hour per slot. This is assuming all slots full all the time though, which may not be possible, at least at first. Also, labs are 25% more effective than outpost research slots. So they would take less time, therefore lowering costs more.

Oh, labs cost 90 million, fyi.

So, I am proposing that we purchase a lab, and coordinate use of the slots through either myself or somebody else in Fw4ppers. When we have enough slots 'scheduled' we would online the lab and get things going! Then when it's done, we could mine, just to have some cobalt for a rainy day.

The research slots could help both corps of course, so please give your input on what you would like to see! Perhaps this could be an investment opportunity within the corps as well, with priority for research going to investors? Just another idea...
