Re: Spec me a new Laptop People!

Trick with dell laptops is to go for the lattitude range, not the el-cheapo mass-market grade inspirons. Lattitudes are built v solid in my experience.

Re: Two Minutes Hate

Yet another illinformed bit of drivel. I wonder when they will get bored of writing about it? I expect only when the Page views drop off, but all the gaming sites linking to this sort of thing and stirring up rabid gamers will just perpetuate it. Looks like this author has got quite a backlash and p...

I was sold even before you mentioned that.

The Finns are pretty messed up in that regard as far as my experience goes. I think all the sauna-ing goes to their heads.

Re: Bitcoin

Soo.. been in the news again

Just curious, did anyone else put some money in bitcoin in the end? How are you guys doing?
I traded some of mine (badly) but what's left is worth (theoretically) about 6 times as much as my original investment at present. I wish I'd just sat on them tho

Re: eReading - Kindle vs Nexus 7

I held out for some time from buying a kindle as the ebooks were more expensive than 2nd hand paperbacks. (they still are). But I gave in and bought a kindle paperwhite for the convince. I have to say it's one of my fav gadgets now. I read a lot more and at night the soft glow of the page is so much...

Re: Huh, Winamp is dead.

I cant say I've used it since the days of windows 95. Personally, I use mediaplayerclassic to handle playing the odd mp3 or video file. If I want to listen to music properly I use my media server running Logitech Media Server, and the software client for it (squeezeplay) on whatever computer I'm sat...

Re: 3D Printing

The more I look at this the more I want an Ultimaker 2. It's fast, quiet, looks easy to use, and highly accurate compared to anything else in the price range as far as I can tell. The components seem to come out with glossy sides they are so smooth. Everything else seems to print things all lumpy an...

Re: 3D Printing

that fused doodah modeling method (I think. Thats where it just spits out plastic from the end of a print nozzle, right?) If when it's finished printing the office is completely covered in fine white powder, its an expensive laser whatsit. If when it's finished you can just pick up what it's printe...

Re: 3D Printing

Yeah, definitey possible to print joints and moving parts with high end laser sintering or resin injecting pro jobbies. They cost megabucks though. All of the affordable printers seem to be the extruding Fused deposition modeling* type. I would have thought that (because the plastic is warm and stic...

Print a hamster powered walker http://i.imgur.com/WM4u8Gf.gif That is the coolest thing I have ever seen. Can an extruding printer print at that scale without the joints gumming up? I'd have thought that would have to be sintered. thinking about which printer, well a reprap based kit from maplin, t...

Re: 3D Printing

I've been pondering 3d printers for a while, in the same boat. Would like to dabble but don't have a specific need as such. What if a few of us interested souls "shared" a printer. We could spread the cost of the initial purchase, then just pay for the materials used when we wanted to prin...

Re: Spec me an improved network solution bitches!

yeah, narf i think you'd get 2-3 years out of a normal cable easy enough. Assuming its relatively sheltered and its not damaged. Alternatively... its not expensive to do it properly. You takes your choice.... http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/25m-OUTDOOR-USE-cat5e-Ethernet-Network-Cable-PVC-Lined-External-B...

Re: Spec me an improved network solution bitches!

Yar, cable tying it to a drainpipe might work if you have one handy. I just ran a nice straight line of cable using cable clips nailed into the wall. You can pull these out whenever you like and they leave pretty much no trace. Also, note that indoor grade cat6 is not ideal for external use - water ...

Re: Spec me an improved network solution bitches!

I had a similar issue getting cat6 (and tv coax) into my loft when networking my house. It was easy to drill through the outside wall by the kitchen, and again in the loft, fixing the cable up the outside of the house. Far far easier than trying to route it inside through walls floors and stairs etc.
